The 1980s were a boom time for sports cars, and most famous was Ferrari's mid-engine V-8 two-seater, the 308 (and the later 328). The 308 got a big push start from its star turn in the long-running TV series Magnum, P.I. The GTS features the must-have lift-off targa top, and a Quattrovalvole meaning a 2.9-liter flat-plane-crank V-8 with four-valve heads introduced in 1983. About 12,000 308s were produced over the nine years from 1976 to 1985. The car was fast and had serious power.
The Ferrari 308 GTS was a preeminent symbol in many scenes of the show. Producers used as many as five Ferrari 308s for each season.
