The car was built using the bones of a 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix. The General Motors’ G Body platform was decked out with upgrades and luxury appointments. 1964 Aston Martin DB5 'Project' - £426,875

The Aston Martin DB5 first broke cover in 1963. It quickly became one of the most desirable and sought-after grand tourers ever created. Described as ‘a car that defies definition’, the DB5 was all things to all men, provided you could afford the huge £4,248 price of admission. The DB5 became an icon after starring alongside Sean Connery in the 1965 film Goldfinger.
Power came via a 4.0-litre, 283-horsepower, triple-SU-fed straight-six engine. Bolted to that was a four-speed manual gearbox, which was soon upgraded to a slick five-speed ZF unit—driving a live rear axle.
0-60 mph time is 8.1 seconds onto a top speed of 140 mph. Chassis 1482/R was delivered on 5 March 1964. The car is in California Sage over a Fawn interior, and was used regularly during its early years. By 1976 the car had been taken off the road and was laid up in a garage; it remained there for the next 35 years. This Aston Martin offers its new owner the vanishingly rare opportunity to create from a totally unrestored DB5.
The car changed hands at RM Sotheby's.
