Shelby tuned 1967 Toyota 2000GT - $2.53m

The Shelby Toyota 2000 GT sold for a whooping US$2,535,000 at Gooding & Company's Amelia Island auction on March 5, 2022. Behold the most expensive Japanese car ever sold at auction.
The 2000GT is considered the genesis for Japanese sportscars, and it is a car which has consistently commanded large prices at auctions. While any 2000GT is desirable, this one may be the most desirable of them all. This car was part of Toyota’s brief collaboration with Carroll Shelby and his Shelby American race team. The 1967 chassis MF10-10001 is one of three 2000GT’s prepared by Shelby American.
The 2.0-litre, twin cam six cylinder engine remained during the migration from street to race car for this 2000GT. Extras included adjustable Koni shocks, a differential oil cooler, dual megaphone exhausts, Halibrand wheels and upgraded brakes.
This is the first time the 2000GT has been offered for public sale since 1980. Estimate is $1.5m
