1987 Porsche 959 Komfort bashed on way to Auction

A rare 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort, the first of 294 examples built — was bound for the Mecum Auction at Monterey in a car trailer when disaster struck. The trailer unhitched from the truck on the freeway and careened off the road until it was eventually stopped by a tree. The Porsche had extensive front end damage and the front right wheel was torn off. The rear-mounted engine was unscathed.
Despite the damage, the car went to auction and sold for $467,500. In January another example sold at auction for $1.16m while one sold at Monaco last year for $1.35m.
