1962 Ferrari 250 GTO by Scaglietti at RM Sotheby's

36 examples of the 250 GTO were produced, all of which have survived. Widely considered the most beautiful Ferrari design, the model was one of the most successful road/racing cars that the marque ever built, claiming overall victory or 1st in class in nearly 300 races worldwide. Decades later, the Ferrari 250 GTO has become the car collector’s “holy grail".
Chassis 3413GT, is the third of the 36 examples built, and began its life as a Series I car.

Italian gentleman racer Lualdi-Gabardi entered the GTO in 10 races in 1962, winning 9 and placing second once. He won the Italian National GT championship that year and his track success with the early GTO contributed significantly in cementing what would become the GTO legend.

A rare feat for any race car, it retains its original engine, gearbox, and rear axle, as well as its factory Series II body.

Maintained in highly original condition, this GTO is the most valuable motor car ever offered for public sale.

1963 Ferrari 250 GTO: $ 70m

A 1963 example has been sold to an American collector for a rumoured $70 million and breaks the record for a fee paid for a classic car. Why such a premium for this particular Ferrari?

Serial number 4135GT is largely original. It’s also had an illustrious career in motorsport.
In its heyday it chauked up a fourth-place finish at Le Mans in 1963, and won the ten-day Tour de France road rally the following year. It’s raced all over Europe and Africa, before being the prized jewel in several private collections before its latest, record-breaking sale.

The world's most expensive car - Ferrari 250 GTO

In 2014 a Ferrari 250 GTO sold for a world record price at auction of $38.1 million, though there have been rumors of private sales well above that number. Each time one of the world's most desirable cars comes to auction, it tends to break the price record because the market is rising relentlessly.
In 2016 it was reported there were 2 private sellers asking $57 million for their 250 GTOs. The price for a third being sold by Talacrest is $55.8 million according to the Robb Report. 33 GTOs were made in 1962 and 1963, and in 1964 a "Series II" was introduced. Three such cars were made, and four older "Series I" were given the "Series II" body and three "330 GTO" specials with a larger engine were also made. It brought the total of GTOs produced to 39.

The Ferrari 250 GTO won the World title both seasons in succession.
