Mercedes - AMG GT R

Mercedes is planning two even faster versions of the high performance Mercedes-AMG GT S. Now there's video evidence of just such a vehicle tearing up the track at Nurburgring.

The car is rumored to get a four-wheel steering system to improve cornering and high-speed stability, a new type of adjustable spool-valve shocks and active aerodynamic elements. It should be unveiled this summer.

The Corvair

The Corvair was a compact automobile produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors for the 1960–1969 model years.

It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine.

The Corvair line-up included a two-door coupe, convertible, four-door sedan, and four-door station wagon body styles, as well as in passenger van, commercial van, and pickup.
Chevrolet had planned on ending Corvair production after the 1966 model year. Development and engineering changes were halted in 1966 on the year-old, redesigned second-generation cars with federally mandated emissions and safety changes made thereafter.

Ralph Nader, attorney and consumer advocate, highlighted the Corvair's handling in his 1965 book Unsafe At Any Speed. 1966 Corvair sales subsequently fell to half from the sales of 1965. Controversy followed Nader's book. GM had over 100 lawsuits pending in connection with crashes involving the Corvair, which subsequently became the initial material for Nader's investigations.
The book highlighted crashes related to the Corvair's suspension and identified the Chevrolet suspension engineer who had fought management's decision to remove — for cost reasons — the front anti-sway bar installed on later models. Corvair sales fell from 220,000 in 1965 to 109,880 in 1966. By 1968 production fell to 14,800.

Corvair Monza Spyder, 1965
A 1972 safety commission report concluded that the 1960–1963 Corvair possessed no greater potential for loss of control than its contemporary competitors.

A review panel concluded that "the 1960–63 Corvair compares favorably with contemporary vehicles."

The Corvair spawned a number of innovative concept vehicles including the Corvair SS, Monza GT, Monza SS, and Astro I.

Rimac Concept S

The Rimac Concept S features dual front and dual rear electric motors work with Rimac All Wheel Torque Vectoring S (R-AWTVS) to optimize the distribution of up to 1,328 lb.ft (1,800 Nm) to the four wheels. All that output meets the ground via a set of Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R track tires after running through two single-speed transmissions up front and two double-clutch two-speeds at the rear. An 82 kWh 650V battery pack provides the energy.
Rimac has given the 1,384-hp Concept S a hardcore aerodynamics kit and is estimating a 2.5-second 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint, 5.6-second 0-124 mph (200 km/h) run and 227 mph (365 km/h) top speed.

2017 Audi R8 Spyder

The 2017 Audi R8 Spyder features a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10, rated at 540 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque that will go from 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds on to a top speed of 197mph. That is shackled to a Quattro four-wheel drive system through a seven-speed dual-clutch.

The Quattro all-wheel-drive system can send as much as 100 percent to the front or the rear axle, although the default setup is strongly rear-biased. There is a GKN-supplied, water-cooled front differential and a limited-slip differential in the rear.
At 3554 pounds, the R8 Spyder is svelte by modern standards; 80 percent of its spaceframe is made from aluminum. The standard tires are 245/35R-19 front and 295/35R-19 in the back, with 245/30R-20 front and 305/30R-20 rear rubber optional.

The electrically assisted rack-and-pinion steering comes from ZF. Adaptive, magnetorheological dampers for the suspension are also optional.
The vehicle will be available this summer at a premium over the base MSRP of $165,450 for the R8 coupe.
